
This study reviews images of food in Christian art of XV–XVII centuries related to Bible stories and characters. The structure of the analysis is based on the antiposition through specific images directly related to the the diagram of Jesus Christ: apple, red wine, meat, and seafood.


The first chapter focuses on their positive meaning of — healthy progeny, salvation, and eternally resurgent life. In second chapter these even products are considered from the backward side, referring to sin like venom, and exposing human vices.

The research bar is based on the old books with the receptors, where the underlined notes on the the fields and the embedded images and the photographs of the food. The format of the publication is also inspired by the big books of the Middle Ages.
