Exhibition of the Graduate Projects of Design and Modern Arts of the National School of Design of the University of Couratorate: Alexander Kuznetsov
Diploma21 is an eight graduate degree project at the 2021 School of Design of the National School of Science and Modern Arts. Each work is a separate statement which, in the course of the preparation of the diplomas, was carried out as an exhibition or other event at different sites in Moscow.
The exhibition also features books — visual studies created by students as part of diploma projects. In these publications, authors examine in detail either the visual and substantive aspects of the subject matter of their project or the global context in which their works exist.
Sophia Afanassieva
Sophia Afanaseva’s diploma project was co-sponsored with Alexandra Kuznetski’s exhibit «The Ghostology of Post-Council Spaces» at HSE ART GALLY. Artists whose works have been selected by careful open-call have been thinking about «chontology» or «ghostology» of the spaces around us, namely, the post-Council space. The project’s curators referred the exhibition participants to Jacques Derrid’s «The Marx Ghosts» and offered to explore the post-Council space. At the graduation exhibition, Sophia’s work, together with Alexandra Kuznetsova, is presented as a memory. The air object--the panorama is replicating the past: an exhibition with the work of artists.

Sasha Wals.
In the graduate project «I, Z, C: Poetry in the Dumpster and Objects Near», Sasha Wals studies the category of short-term art in modern art or, as the artist says, «production of art models „in one breath“ or in a breath.» Dreyfuy at abandoned factories, the artist found artifacts and reassemblyed them, changed site confiscation and ironized the theme of «everlasting» art.

Margarita Varakina
«Here’s next door. We will be neighbours» is Margarita Varankina’s multi-dimensional social exhibition project on the people of the Sokol region and implemented through their participation. The exhibition collected the works of artists based in the area and linking their creativity to him, the personal belongings of people living in nearby houses, and video interviews with some of them. The project aimed to tell neighbours about each other and was the starting point for the formation of a local community.

Elena Vlasova
«Here’s next door. Mercany is a diploma project by Elena Vlasova, which was first shown at the Sandstone Gallery. The focus of the artist’s attention is the city’s space, a marginal part of it, where a person doesn’t usually look. The back of the city is hidden from the general view of the front, growing in layers and traces of time. The Karusel facility is the motive for a volatile city that can be contacted directly. The twist, the image of the „common place“, the formatting, the emphasising, and the restrictions are deconstructed, with painting and video creating a double image, and in the installation the reason for the game.

Polina Dmitrieva
In the project «Trenagers of Sensitivity», Pauline Dmitriev rethinks the sensitive and physical component of the human being and sport as a field of consciousness. The artist constructs an «empathic» gym filled with objects whose function is to protect, release and relax the body. Sports equipment, in its usual cold metal shell, contains hidden physical and individual potential.
The video-documentation of the performance of the «STAY» group in the Flacon design space represents the plastic and procedural side of the project. Sportsmen interact with soft and gentle coaches, focusing on them. So they’re looking at the boundaries and possibilities of their own body, their senses and their reflexes in space.

Sonia Kiseleva
Sony Kiseleva (sonyalovesredbull) was the project to create and launch its own art institute. Scorcher Gallery is a gallery focused on young artists of the Z generation working in the direction of post-quantity, lo-fi, destructive art. During the year of its existence, the gallery has held several exhibitions in a variety of spaces and a number of multimedia, trans-generic events. Thus, Sonja creates a field of horizontal communication, exchange of ideas and views on the new modern art. Moreover, in the autumn of 2021, the gallery took part in the annual SWAB Art Fair in Barcelona.

Katya Mordwinkina
«No gesture» is an interdisciplinary project of three shows by Katya Mordwinkina on the theme of a power gesture. Every action tells us about the relationship between power and man. The choreography of the play uses familiar gestures — a nonverbal dictionary of politicians, church representatives, and others. This metaphorical narrative illustrates the situations of modern Russian reality.

Jaroslav Motylov
Pop It is a project by Jaroslav Motylov that criticizes the duality of the image, its influence on a person’s perception of post-truth and blurring the concepts of objectivity/subjectivity, reality/virtuality. The tictox is the most popular and popular application of the past few years. In a series of aqualles, based on an old documentary photo, it also works with the idea of devaluing authenticity and reducing perception by multiplying images, making sure that the economy of attention is operational.
