Eternity and another day
«Eternity and another day» by Milorad Pavić, a play-hypertext consisting of three choices, one central action and three selective endings, respectively, have nine versions of the play read by the reader. The director of Chekov’s Chekov MHT, Vladimir Petrov, decided to choose two of the nine possible options and assigned them the symbols «women’s» and «men’s» versions. Just before the show began, two cards, pink and blue, were given to viewers entering the theater building. People who did not know the content of any version were asked to vote in favour of what version they wanted to see. According to the director ' s assurance, the actors and directors learned about the version to be played 15 to 20 minutes before the show began.
In the book, the reader can vote for a certain version by turning the book over the top. The male and female versions are read in different directions, the selected version is always on the left turnbar.
When the book becomes central, it takes an Album orientation and a separate paragraph style.
The play-hypertext constantly refers to itself in all its parts, repeating rituals, phrases, quotations. The book of links shows the type of footnotes on the side fields that are available in the direction of the part from which they appear. References work together and appear in both parts at the same time.
